Primate’s Pastoral Visit to Ventura County, California

On Sunday, February 24, 2008, His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian accompanied by Deacons from the Western Diocese paid a pastoral visit to the Armenian Church. The Primate celebrated the Divine Liturgy and delivered the sermon. The Primate ordained David M. Esayian, Razmig Groomian, Allen Grigorian, Alexander Hagopian, Christopher Shahbazian, Gregory Esayian, Garen Alexandri and Digran Actaian to the forth rank of acolyte. The Primate expanded on the “Prodigal Son,” the theme of the 3rd Sunday of Lent, in his sermon. He offered his words of wisdom to the newly ordained acolytes and congratulated them on this significant occasion. His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian praised Fr. Hovel Ohanyan and the Parish Council for their dedicated service to the Church. The Primate presented Fr. Hovel Ohanyan with a pectoral cross. A reception was held following the church service. Over 170 people participated in the service and the reception. Mr. Raffy Astvasadourian, Chairman of the Diocesan Council, served as the Master of Ceremonies during the reception. In conclusion, the Primate expressed his appreciation and encouragement to the parishioners.
