Upon the initiative of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, on Sunday, February 24, 2008, a special requiem for martyrs of the liberation of Artsakh was performed in all churches of the Western Diocese. 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of the liberation of Artsakh. The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin has issued a statement on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the liberation of Artsakh in which His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, lauded the unparalleled sacrifices made by the Martyrs of the liberation of Artsakh and called on the faithful to keep their precious memory alive.
