On Sunday, April 29, 2007, His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate, presided at the Vanoush Khanamerian Dance Ensemble’s 15th Anniversary event at the Glendale High School. Close to 300 children performed traditional Armenian dances. Noted founders and instructors of the Dance Ensemble are Samuel Nazarian and Zara Gulakian.
At the conclusion of the event, Archbishop Derderian was called upon to make closing remarks and extended words of appreciation to the founders and instructors. He expressed his special thanks to the approximately 1500 guests in attendance and stated “Resurrection of our Lord is transmitted to all of us tonight by the most inspiring performance of the Vanoush Khanamerian Dance Ensemble. The children who have attained the art of dancing have truly lived the Armenian spirit in their hearts. In their movements we see the rebirth of the nation and the church. My special thanks go to the founders Samuel Nazarian and Zara Gulakian and to all the parents for their sacrifices.”
