It is with deep sorrow that the Western Diocese inform its faithful that the Prime Minister of Armenia, Andranik Margarian passed away today at the age of 56 from heart attack in his apartment.

Biography of Prime Minister Andranik Magarian
The Prime Minister of Armenia Andranik Margarian, who was also the chairman of the Armenian Republican Party, was born on June 12 in 1951 in Yerevan. In 1972 he graduated from the Yerevan Polytechnic University majoring in Technical Cybernetics.
From 1972-1974 he worked at the Yerevan branch of Scientific-Research Institute of Gas Industry as a senior engineer.
From 1977-1978 he worked at the Scientific-Research Institute of Energy as chief engineer.
From 1978-1979 he worked in the Energy-Technical Factory as head of department.
From 1979-1990 he worked at the Information Counting Center of the Trade Ministry as the head of department of electronics.
From 1990-1994 he was the head of the information department at the State Department of Special Programs.
From 1994 to 1995 he worked in Armenia’s State Architectural University as junior scientist.
In 1999 he was elected Member of Parliament and headed “Unity” faction.
In 2000 Andranik Margarian was appointed Prime Minister of Armenia. He remained in this office after 2003 parliamentary elections and governed the established political coalition.
During the Karabakh war he had active participation in the establishment of volunteer squads, participated in the military activities.
Andranik Margarian was highly underscoring Armenia’s economic development and was speaking in favor of establishing peace in the region, continuation of peaceful negotiations over Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement.
He was awarded “Garegin Nzhdeh” medal of the Armenian Defense Ministry, “Aram Manukian,” “Frideof Nansen”, “Vazgen Sargsian” medals.
From June 9, 1992 he became the member of the Armenian Republican Party in October of the same year. In February of 1993 he was elected member of the Council of the Republican Party.
In December 1993, 1994 and on December 2, 1995 he was elected the head of the party’s council.
On December 20 1997 he was elected the chairman of the Armenian Republican Party and the head of the council.
On January 30 1999, June 9 2001, and July 12 2003 he was elected the head of the party’s council.
On December 17, 2005 he was re-elected the chairman of the Armenian Republican Party.
Andranik Margarian was married had two daughters, one son and five grandchildren.
