On July 1, the Western Diocese participated in an Interfaith Service to mark the inauguration of Mr. Antonio Villaraigosa as Mayor of Los Angeles, Ms. Wendy Grueul as City Controller, and Mr. Carmen Trutanich as City Attorney. Representing His Eminence Abp. Hovnan Derderian were Very Rev. Fr. Baret Yeretzian, and Dn. Matthew Ash.
City Officials gather for an interfaith event hosted at F.A.M.E. to mark City inaugurations. The event took place at the acclaimed First African Methodist Episcopal Church near Downtown Los Angeles, with representatives present from most of Los Angeles's faith communities. Church Hymns were sung by the F.A.M.E. choir, as well as members of other churches and faiths.
This day was especially rejoiceful, as it saw the reinstatement of Mayor Villaraigosa, and former City Councilmember Wendy Grueul being installed as City Controller. Both of these public servants have a positive and long-standing relationship with the Western Diocese.
The Diocese also congratulates the members of the Los Angeles City Council who were re-elected, as well as those who have been newly elected.
