Western Diocese / Episcopal Dialogue Committee Meeting held at All Saints Church of Pasadena

On Monday, May 15th, His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian met with several young Armenian American lawyers from the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.

On the evening of Monday, May 15th, the Jewish World Watch organization held an event to honor Prof.

On Tuesday, May 16th, His Eminence attended the meeting of the Los Angeles Religious Leaders Council, which was hosted by the representatives from the United Methodist Church.

On Wednesday, May 17th, the Diocese celebrated the Feast Day of the Ascension of Christ or “Hampartzoom” at the Diocesan Headquarters.

On Thursday, May 18th, Archbishop Hovnan Derderian hosted the first official meeting at the Diocese with the Honorable Ara Najarian as Mayor of the City of Glendale.

On Friday, May 19th, the Primate met with Burbank City Council Member Ani Anja Rinke who was accompanied by Mr. Hagop Hergalian, a officer of the Burbank Police Department.

On Saturday, May, 19, His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian attended the meeting of the Diocesan Summer Camp Committee.

On the evening of Saturday, May 19, His Eminence attended the 85th anniversary of the Nor Or Weekly Newspaper.

On Sunday, May 20th, the Primate presided of the celebration of St. Vartan Oakland’s 50th Anniversary of consecration.

On Sunday, May 20th, Fr. Zaven Markosyan representing the Primate attended the 3rd Annual Gala Dinner of the Armenian International Medical Fund.

On Sunday, May 20th, His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian attended the Vartan and Siranoosh Kevorkian International Dance Academy performance, which was held at the Ford Amphitheater, and was sponsored by Hye Pharmacy.

On Saturday, May 12th, 2007, His Eminence Abp. Hovnan Derderian attended an event hosted by the Armenian General Benevolent Union at their headquarters in Altadena, CA.

On Friday, May 11th, 2007 the Western Diocese hosted a concert featuring YerazArt, Young Musicians from Armenia.

On Wednesday, May 9th, 2007 His Eminence Abp. Hovnan Derderian made his first pastoral visit to the Armenian Community of Camarillo.

On Tuesday May 8th, 2007 His Eminence Abp. Hovnan Derderian received leaders from the World Vision organization who made an official visit to the Western Diocese.

 

On Sunday, May 13th, 2007 His Eminence Abp. Hovnan Derderian attended the Divine Liturgy at the Armenian Church of Burbank (Diocesan Headquarters) and delivered the sermon.

On Sunday, April 29, 2007, three dedicated members of the St. John Garabed Armenian Church in Hollywood were honored and presented with the Pontifical Encyclicals and the Medals of St. Nersess the Graceful. The recipients were Mr. and Mrs. Nishan Blikian, Dr. and Mrs.Yeghia Taglian and Dr. and Mrs. Hagop Mkhsian.

On Sunday, April 29, 2007, His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate, presided at the Vanoush Khanamerian Dance Ensemble’s 15th Anniversary event at the Glendale High School.  Close to 300 children performed traditional Armenian dances.  Noted founders and instructors of the Dance Ensemble are  Samuel Nazarian and Zara Gulakian.

Rev. Fr. Ghevont Miyilian and Rev. Fr. Vahram Melikian, representatives of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin participated in the 80th Annual Diocesan Assembly of the Western Diocese on May 3-5 at St. Gregory Armenian Church in Pasadena.

A reception was held on April 30, 2007 at the Western Diocese in honor of the Honorable Armen Liloyan, Consul General of the Republic of Armenia.  During the reception,  the plaques of the Godfathers, Avak Godfathers and  Benefactors were unveiled.

On the evening of May 1st, 2007 a banquet was held at the Western Diocese in honor of Ara Abrahamyan. 

On Sunday, May 6, 2007, His Eminence Cardinal Roger Mahoney and His Honor, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa hosted a Mass of Unity at the Cathedral of Our: Lady of the Angels in light of the tragic violence in McArthur Park.

The 80th Annual Assembly of the Western Diocese was held on May 4-5 at the St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church in Pasadena. The Opening Ceremony and Prayer was officiated by His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate, and members of the clergy. The Primate presided over the sessions of the Assembly.

It is with immense joy that we are informing our Armenian faithful about the upcoming events dedicated to the 80th Anniversary of the establishment of the Western Diocese.

On Friday April 27, 2007, the Jewish World Watch and the Western Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, joined together at the Valley Beth Shalom in Encino,and hosted a dinner attended by over 500 people.   Following the dinner a joint Shabbat Service was held in the Temple with close to 1000 people in attendance. The title of this event was “We Remember, We Commemorate.” 

On May 3th, the 55th Annual Assembly of the Ladies Society of the Western Diocese was held at St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church. His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian presided over the sessions at the assembly and opened the meeting with a prayer.
