On Maundy Thursday, March 20, 2008, starting 10:00 a.m., Fr. Zaven Markosyan celebrated the Divine Liturgy and delivered the sermon at the temporary sanctuary of the Western Diocese. His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian presided over the church service. The Vicar General of the Western Diocese and several other clergy accompanied the Primate during the morning church service.

The Maundy Thursday church services continued in the evening, when His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate, conducted the ceremony of the Washing of the Feet to commemorate the humility of our Lord Jesus Christ during the Last Supper. The Primate most poignantly stressed in his remarks the significance of the victory of the teacher of humility over the evil master of arrogance and that our Lord Jesus Christ prevailed over the death by sacrificing himself over the cross. The Primate encouraged the faithful gathering to exercise the good tidings of Christ and lead a prayerful life in order to become acquainted with Christ our Lord.
