Primate Participates in Lambeth Rally for Poverty Reduction

His Eminence Abp. Hovnan Derderian completed his first full day as an ecumenical observer of the Lambeth Conference, as the representative of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians. This day was marked with several important events, as it saw the conference leaving the confines of the presentation halls and participating in several activities aimed at outreach and witnessing.

Primate Visits First Week of Camp

Abp. Hovnan Derderian visited the first session of the Armenian Church Summer Camp. During his time there he visited the newly installed Barsam Sports Court, the Boat House, and the Paparikian Deck, as well as other upgrades to the property. Accompanied by Dn. Krikor Avakyan and Dn. Matthew Ash, he spent time with the week's campers and staff, and led the evening prayer service.

100th Anniversary of William Saroyan Was Marked at Western Diocese

On July 13, 2008, the 100th Anniversary of one of the foremost American writers of the 20th century William Saroyan, organized by Armenian-American Association, was held at the Nazareth and Sima Kalaydjian Banquet Hall of the Western Diocese.

Sanahin Institute Seminar

A series of lectures on a variety of spiritual topics were held during the Sanahin Institute Seminar on July 17-19, 2008, at Aldersgate Retreat Center in Pacific Palisades, California.

Armenian Cultural Foundation Annual Reception/Fundraising

Archpriest Fr. Manoog Markarian, Pastor of St. John Armenian Church – Hollywood, will represent His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate, at the annual reception of the Armenian Cultural Foundation held in Beverly Wilshire Hotel, on July 27, 2008.

Inaugural Delegates Assembly for the Pan Armenian Church Youth Organization Was held in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin

Under the direction and with the blessings of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, the meetings of the inaugural International Assembly for the Pan Armenian Church Youth Organization (Pan ACYO) was held from 10 - 11 July 2008 in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

With delegates assembled from over 35 Armenian Church Dioceses throughout the world, this truly remarkable event has provided a venue for the faithful youth of the Armenian Church to unite in one voice, in praise of God, and in service to Christ's Church.

Camp Staff Training in Fowler, California

The training session was aimed at educating the summer camp staff members on various aspects of a successful summer camp program including good coordination, supervision and safety considerations, as well as other valuable information.

Christian Education Council Forums

On June 23-24, 2008, Clergy from the Greater Los Angeles area along with Ms. Zarouhi Der Mugrdechian, Chair of the Christian Education Council, participated in a series of meetings at the Armen and Gloria Hampar Room of the Western Diocese. The meetings were organized by Very Rev. Fr. Dajad Dz. V. Yardemian, Vicar General, assisted by Sub-Deacon Martin Zakaryan, the new Librarian of the Western Diocese.

Armenian Society of Los Angeles and Armenian-American Medical Society of California Representatives Meet with Primate

The meetings were aimed at improving cooperation and developing working relationships between the Diocese and the above mentioned organizations.

Primate Meets with La Canada Parish Council

On June 24, 2008, His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian met with Archpriest Fr. Hovsep Hagopian, Parish Priest, and the La Canada Parish Council, consulting with them about issues pertaining to parish life.

Armenia Fund Reception/Forum in Glendale

On June 24, 2008, during a special reception/forum held at the Glendale Hilton Hotel, Mr. Ara Hovsepian, Representative of the Millennium Challenge Account, Armenia, discussed various aspects of the MCA-Armenian project with the audience.

During the meeting proposed materials for the composition of the textbook were considered and evaluated.

Primate Meets with Several Armenian Organizations

On Saturday, June 28, 2008, representatives from the Aintab-Armenian Cultural Foundation, the Beylan-Armenian Organization, the Chorgmarzban Armenian Organization, Iraqi-Armenian Society and the Organization of Istanbul Armenians visited His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian at the Western Diocese.
