On June 20, 2012, Diocesan Council member and “Mer Hooys – House of Hope” founder Honorable Judge Adrienne Krikorian led a pilgrimage group to Armenia. The pilgrims will visit religious sites, churches and monasteries. On June 30, the group will participate in the official opening ceremony of the “Mer Hooys – House of Hope” building which will house close to 50 Armenian teenage girls between the ages 13-16 from disadvantaged backgrounds.
House of Hope-Mer Hooys, Inc is a California non-profit tax-exempt organization. Mer Hooys has the support of his Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, and the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America. Mer Hooys is dedicated to reaching young women from disadvantaged lifestyles who do not have the means to otherwise acquire job skill development and training, advanced education, life and social skill development, psychological and spiritual counseling and mentorship.
One of the major goals of the organization is to provide an environment operating in one or more homes in Yerevan and in outlying communities that will reach a broad base of young Armenians coming from disadvantaged lifestyles. The comprehensive program provides a nurturing family environment which instills encouragement and hope for the future of the young adults.
