Primate Meets with Armenian Church of La Canada and Crescenta Valley Parish Council
On July 9, 2012, Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian met with Archpriest Fr. Hovsep Hagopian, Pastor and the Parish Council of the Armenian Church of La Canada and Crescenta Valley at the Diocesan Headquarters in Burbank. The purpose of the meeting was to inform about the transitional steps of the parish following the acquisition of the church building in Tujunga.
His Eminence informed the council that the church in Tujunga will serve as the spiritual shelter of three communities including La Canada, La Crescenta and Tujunga. He added that Rev. Fr. Avedis Abovian will assume pastoral duties as he has been appointed as Pastor of the Tujunga Parish. The Blessing and Dedication (Navagadig) ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 11, 2012 and the first Divine Liturgy celebration will take place on the following morning. An evening honoring Archpriest Fr. Hovsep Hagopian will be held on August 31, 2012. More information will be provided in the coming weeks.
The present Parish Council will serve for an additional period of six months after which an election will be held and members from the three communities will comprise of the new Parish Council.
