Service of Light Ceremony, Burbank Parish
Published on Dec 31 2009 by Divan of the Diocese
On Sunday, December 20, 2009, the Primate presided over the Service of Light Ceremony at the Burbank Parish. The ceremony entitled "Silent Night" was organized by "The Good Samaritans" of the Parish. The Primate was joined by Rev. Fr. Khajag Shahbazyan, Parish Priest.
During the evening service, the Primate delivered the following message:
"Love, to be real, must cost-it must hurt-it must empty us of self" - Mother Teresa
"Tonight, we bring you the wonderful message from Mother Teresa. When we mention the Love of Christ, we must be able to surrender it entirely to those who are in need...Unfortunately, we live in a world where people prioritize materialism over love and respect for one another. The Blessed Birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is the ultimate reflection of God's Love for man. Therefore, let us rejoice in this wondrous gift and become the good servants of God.
. . . It is commendable to have 'The Good Samaritans' serving the Burbank community under the direction of Rev. Fr. Khajag Shahbazyan. Throughout the years, this group of individuals has made it a tradition in organizing such wonderful events for the benefit of the Church and its mission.
Dear faithful, we call on you tonight to become the apostles of Christ and proudly preach His Gospel. Let us turn this evening of prayer into an evening of light, peace and generosity."
Following the service, a small reception was held at the Kalaydjian Hall of the Diocesan Complex. Rev. Fr. Khajag Shahbazyan offered the blessing of the tables. After welcoming the faithful, Verjine Krboyan, Chair of the Good Samaritans, expanded on the wonderful mission of "The Good Samaritans."
