WESTERN DIOCESE TO HOLD BANQUET “CELEBRATING THE RISE OF THE MOTHER CATHEDRAL

The Armenian community will have an opportunity to join in “Celebrating the Rise of the Mother Cathedral,” at a Banquet to be held on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at the Nazareth and Sima Kalaydjian Hall, of the Arshag and Eleanor Dickranian Diocesan Complex in Burbank. Under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate, and organized by a committee at the Western Diocese, chaired by Dr. Harout Yaghsezian, the evening will be an occasion for each and everyone to share in the joy of the May 3rd commencement of the construction of the Mother Cathedral.
Dr. Harout Yaghsezian stated that the main purpose of the banquet is to raise awareness in the community and to encourage participation, regardless of the value, in this historic undertaking. “We are very pleased to have the participation of all community organizations in this celebration,” Dr. Yaghsezian stated. “We are grateful for their support and cooperation
and welcome their involvement in this challenging mission.”
His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate, stated “The Mother Church will become a standing symbol of the Armenian community in the Diaspora and a golden bridge between God and his faithful… it will become the cornerstone for all of our Diocese’s Parishes, will strengthen the bond between the Armenian Church and its faithful, and will spread the Christian spirit that will become the guiding ingredient of our souls.”
The program for the celebration will include performances by the Armenian Society Choir of Los Angeles, the Khachadourian Choir and pianist Armen Abrahamian. Guests will receive updates on the progress of the construction of the Mother Cathedral as well as a video presentation.
