Under the direction of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian the CEC is committed to supply resources and tools by which teachers and parents can be equipped for this dynamic and growing mission.
In January of 2010 the CEC, under new leadership, combined the talents of continuing members with a number of new members to move forward and tackle new tasks and challenges as our Diocese grows and matures.
"Seasoned with Grace" Workshops
In February and March the CEC offered workshops at St. John Garabed in San Diego and St. Gregory in Pasadena. Workshops are currently scheduled for the Northern region at St. John, San Francisco and at St. Mary, Yettem for the Central region in the fall.
The ‘Seasoned with Grace’ offered a glimpse of the golden thread of our faith that reaches from the Holy Altar to the Church Kitchen. It incorporated the talents of the Ladies Society, who made Chorag and Mas as the importance of ‘leavening/yeast’ was discussed in Christian life. The ACYO and older Sunday school children had the opportunity to learn as they assisted the younger children with the arts and crafts project of making a ‘Jashagestzook Placemat’. The Parish Priest was a part of the workshop as he spoke about Holy Communion and made Nishkhar with participants.
Archbishop Hovnan has requested that parishes who would like to have a workship at their site could contact the CEC.
Curriculum
The CEC is also the source for recommended curriculum, textbooks and valuable resource materials. On challenge that catechists (teachers) encounter is the use of non-prescribed catechetical tools, such as curriculums that offer a ‘fundamental’ approach. It is our conviction that as Armenian Orthodox Christians we transmit the faith of our Fathers to our youth with materials and resources that our appropriate. Please check with the CEC before buying materials to use in faith formation classes in your parish.
An exciting project the CEC has spearheaded upon the request of the Ladies Society is to develop a Vacation Bible School curriculum based on our Sacraments and related topics. These six topics are now available to be used in our parishes: Holy Matrimony, Communion, Baptism, Last Blessing, Ordination and Saints. The Curriculum binder includes: How to organize and publicize the VBS in your parish, lessons for the Assembly, Bible Lesson, Cooking, Arts and Crafts, Armenian Language and Dance.
These can be ordered by contacting the CEC.
Contact Us
There are so many more ways to communicate today then at any other time. We are able to use the internet, by using the Diocesan website, email marketing sources, direct email, Twitter, and Facebook. The CEC also calls and sends hard copies of information to each parish.
It is of utmost importance to keep these lines of communication open and current. Please send updated contact information about your teachers to the CEC.
